New bilingual, non-profit primary school to teach local youth
September 01, 2017
Riviera Maya, Mexico - Rosewood Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya is proud to celebrate the opening of Centro Educativo K’iin Beh, a newly built school located 15 minutes from the leading luxury resort established for the children of its employees and local youth. Serving 200+ students in its inaugural year, the school will offer bilingual, full time education for children in elementary and middle school.
"Mexico has been so kind to me over the past 8 years, so I feel that the opportunity to build this new school is the least I can do for the generous and beautiful people of Mexico,” shared Daniel Scott, Managing Director of Rosewood Mayakoba. “Constructing the school from the ground up has been incredibly rewarding for me personally and it has been privilege to work with so many people who truly want to make a positive difference. We are so proud and humbled to play a small role in the enrichment of the lives of our families at Rosewood Mayakoba and the community as a whole.
The school will operate 5 days a week, offering a comprehensive, bilingual program, teaching subjects and skills including reading, writing, math and science, under the guidance of Principal Raquel Mitre. The scholarship-based enrollment ensures that students of all economic backgrounds will be accepted.
K’iin Beh, meaning towards the Sun in Mayan, has been solely financed by friends and family of Rosewood Mayakoba. With over $500,000 investment and tremendous support from local friends and businesses who provided their work at cost, the school is able to provide an enriching educational environment to nurture the next generation.
Travelers – both individuals and groups – interested in contributing to the school through sustainable tourism can do so via financial donations, providing school supplies such as pencils, paper, markers, and more, or can tour and volunteer their time for hands-on projects like reading or computer lessons. The creation of the school is a reflection of Rosewood Mayakoba’s deep rooted commitment to the well-being and success of its staff and surrounding community.
