El Camaleón is certified by Audubon International as a Cooperative Sanctuary for its commitment to the environment and eco-friendly practices, working to protect and sustain the land, water, natural resources, and wildlife habitats.
El Camaleón gets its name from its diverse layout and varied landscape, stretching through tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and vast stretches of oceanfront sand with holes surrounded by massive limestone channels. The indigenous details of the environmentally inspired design are evident from the fairway with its imposing cenote, an ancient underground cavern.
Although each hole shines with its own magic, it is the Par 3 that has garnered the most praise. Hole 15 defines the El Camaleón golf experience. Just 160 yards, or 146 meters from the back marker, the hole plays directly out onto the shimmering shoreline. Regardless of how the game unfolds, the ocean view accompanies the player long after finishing the round on the green. Hole 7 is also played on the edge of the Caribbean Sea, and the salty sea breeze reaches there. It is an impressive and winding course that takes full advantage of its proximity to the jungle and the sea, providing players with a unique golf experience.
