August 12, 2021
Putting sustainability at the forefront, Rosewood Hong Kong launches “Staycation for Good,” a quarterly programme of meaningful stays that take families on journeys of insight and contribution to relieve pressing environmental and social issues. The debut Staycation for Good, 23 to 25 August 2021, in partnership with Social Venture Hong Kong, Food Angel and Produce Green Foundation, is a unique opportunity for families to learn about ethical food production, food waste reduction and how everyone can minimise food’s environmental impact.
“Through innovative partnerships with dynamic NGOs, our aim is for Staycation for Good to raise awareness and encourage families to be part of positive change in our community and the world,” says Hoss Vetry, Regional Vice President and Managing Director of Rosewood Hong Kong. “Eye-opening, interactive and fun activities, Staycation for Good is not only family bonding with purpose, but sets the stage for younger guests to carry heightened social responsibility throughout their lives.”
A first in a quarterly series, the debut Staycation for Good programme is themed around food waste issue which guests will learn about ethical food production to enhance our well-being.
Fun and Interactive Workshop with Food Angel
Food Angel, a food rescue and food assistance programme, shows the first Staycation for Good families how to reduce and upcycle food waste and solutions for food recovery, through interactive games, a fun workshop and virtual reality films at off-site Foodstep Journey. Armed with new knowledge, participants can then play their part to help minimise food waste, which has become one of the top three solid wastes disposed at Hong Kong landfills.
Half-day farm excursion with Produce Green Foundation
Together with Produce Green Foundation, children and parents will experience a day in a farmer’s life to understand the food cycle and take part in the ages-old ritual of rice planting and hay binding. They will explore the concept of regenerative farming, learn different ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and find out how to save water through natural means. Along the way, families can learn how food waste can be turned into compost which can help produce healthier soil and organic produce.
Eco-friendly practices in our daily life
In a workshop hosted by Matchali, Hong Kong’s first home-grown contemporary matcha brand, its matcharistas will share the company’s inspiring zero-waste initiative from packaging to composting. The compost from Matchali’s collectables is even delivered to local farms and gardens to help vegetation thrive. Following the workshop, guests can also learn to create their own matcha drinks to support the eco-friendly journey.
