PRESS RELEASES
Eagerly anticipated ultra-luxury hotel, a vertical private estate on the majestic Victoria Harbour, is the landmark debut of the Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® brand in its home city of Hong Kong
December 05, 2018
Rosewood Hong Kong, a magnificent new ultra-luxury property situated within the Victoria Dockside arts, design and conceptual retail district, will open 17 March 2019, heralding a series of inaugural “firsts” for the brand and setting Rosewood apart in Hong Kong’s luxury hospitality landscape. Ramping up to the hotel’s fêted opening, reservations are now being accepted as of today’s launch of the hotel’s booking channels. In quick succession, a coffee table book: “Hong Kong: Heritage, Art & Dreams” in conjunction with the publishing house Assouline, will celebrate the city’s indomitable spirit and unrivalled cultural vibrancy; and the brand is also introducing three specially-curated experiences and limited-time offers which showcase Rosewood’s signature A Sense of Place® philosophy and the property’s unique proposition as Asia’s World City.
“As the ultra-luxury hospitality jewel of Victoria Dockside and also the latest and most comprehensive expression of my vision for the Rosewood brand, Rosewood Hong Kong will play an important role in the future narrative of Hong Kong and for the group,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “The hotel’s creative, innovative and distinctive offerings will bring new vibrancy to Hong Kong, establishing a compelling destination within Tsim Sha Tsui and the Kowloon waterfront and adding an important new and differentiated voice to the city’s luxury arena.”
Setting a New Standard in Luxury Hospitality
The Rosewood Hong Kong tower’s statuesque, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates-designed, 65-storey exterior pays contemporary homage to the city’s verticality, with 43 floors dedicated to the hotel and its residences. Standing on the site of the former Holt’s Wharf dating back to 1910, and later the iconic New World Centre – which gained prominence during Hong Kong’s manufacturing heyday of the 1970s and 80s – a revolutionary approach to spatial design will create a waterfront oasis.
Fundamental to Rosewood’s A Sense of Place® guiding principle and Ms. Cheng’s vision of a differentiated and more contemporary expression of luxury hospitality – one in which the hotel’s design is a nuanced reflection of the destination, and also delivers a more residential-style experience – the hotel features a number of intimate spaces throughout, and magnificent views of the Hong Kong’s iconic harbour are prominently showcased in over 80 percent of its rooms. Rosewood Hong Kong’s artfully landscaped lawns, verdant gardens and terraces with immersive harbour views will reflect the refined spirit of the vertical estate, an homage to the brand’s beginnings in Dallas with the Mansion on Turtle Creek® almost 40 years ago, artistically and masterfully designed by veteran hospitality guru Tony Chi of New York studio tonychi, and his visionary touchpoints defining the guest journey within it.
Showcasing expansive water and verdant Kowloon Peak views, eclectic luxury will be central to the property’s generously appointed accommodations, with 322 guestrooms starting at 53 square metres (570-square-foot) and 91 suites, starting at 92 square metres (990-square-foot) in size, distinguishing them among the largest in the city and with an accent on residential detailing, curated works of art and considered amenities. Rosewood Hong Kong will be home to 18 of the most outstanding signature suites in the metropolis, including the 1,000-square-metre (10,764-square-feet) Harbour House and The Garden House, which enjoy wraparound Victoria Harbour views from their private sky terraces on the 57th floor; complete with planted landscaped gardens, sun decks with private lap pools and a dedicated, state-of-the-art private gym.
Revealing a new and expansive iteration of Rosewood’s signature hospitality concept on the 40th floor, ringed by outdoor terraces with spellbinding Victoria Harbour views; the Manor Club will be an exclusive lounge that extends a sense of warm, clubby refinement, in an exclusive space that will tease the palate with complimentary food presentations and handcrafted beverages throughout the day, a lively bar, a games room with a pool table, as well as a host of personalised auxiliary amenities.
In keeping with Rosewood’s overarching ethos around creative, elevated-yet-accessible, and authentic food and beverage concepts, Rosewood Hong Kong will unveil 8 dining concepts, each possessing a distinctive character and unique flavour, with the majority of venues featuring al fresco terraces and views overlooking the water. At launch, Rosewood will showcase its creative and contemporary interpretation of Hong Kong’s unique culinary history with Chinese tea house Holt’s Café; refined regional Cantonese cuisine at The Legacy House; and creative cocktails at the hotel’s discreet, richly ambient bar, DarkSide.
Rosewood Hong Kong will also host the first urban outpost of Asaya, Rosewood’s signature integrative wellness offering. Translated from Sanskrit, asaya means setting an intention or hope – here, to propel self-change and transformation. Set over two dedicated floors, Asaya will revolve around specific individual wellness goals, supported by alternative therapies and rituals, enriching fitness and lifestyle activities, healthy eating plans, a dedication to pure, authentic ingredients and specially designed social spaces for relaxation and reflection with a membership programme that aims to build a sense of community both for local residents and global Asaya guests alike.
Showcasing Rosewood’s signature progressive event philosophy, and reflecting the refined spirit of the estate, 3,200 square metres (34,450-square-feet) of expansive meetings and event space will be enhanced by one of Hong Kong’s few truly private garden venues: an elegantly landscaped lawn with immersive views overlooking glittering Victoria Harbour. In addition, the 1,000-square-metre (10,700-square-foot), pillarless Grand Ballroom situated on the third floor, and The Pavilion on the fourth will offer 1,000 square metres (10,700-square-foot) of residential style event space including the 300-square-metre (3,122-square-feet) Pavilion Hall with dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, and 118 square metres (1,270-square-foot) of ultra-exclusive private event space in The Orangery, with its own abundant covered terrace overlooking the lawn.

Hong Kong: Heritage, Art & Dreams in Partnership with Assouline
Paying homage to Rosewood Hong Kong’s celebration of the city’s history and successes as a global capital for over a century, in partnership with the art publishing house Assouline, Rosewood Hotel Group will launch a new coffee table book Hong Kong: Heritage, Art & Dreams. A paean to Hong Kong, the book is a fascinating take on the city’s defining qualities; and how its living history has shaped the cultural, commercial and creative voices that have cemented Hong Kong’s enduring and celebrated appeal on the global stage. Featuring a foreword by Sonia Cheng, in conjunction with Hong Kong-based architecture, design and art writer Catherine Shaw, and photographer, author and director Robyn Lea, Hong Kong: Heritage, Art & Dreams will retail via pre-order on the Assouline website and at booksellers worldwide from January 2019.
A glittering marker for the resurgence of Kowloon – gateway to China and “City of the Nine Dragons” – Rosewood Hong Kong will celebrate Tsim Sha Tsui’s emerging role as Hong Kong’s creative and cultural epi-centre as the city reinforces its position as a global cultural capital from its former role as a commercial and financial hub. This series of opening events will dovetail with successive launches of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District – set to open in early 2019 – followed by the M+ Museum of Visual Culture in 2020.
