Rosewood Munich is immersed in the history of this city, long a cultural center in addition to its status as Bavaria’s capital. Yet the hotel’s buildings have their own rich stories to tell, beginning with a tale that dates back hundreds of years.
The parcels on which Rosewood Munich sits have been associated with nobility since the 17th century. Today, we honor that tradition with a thoughtful blend of history and modern luxury.
In 1892, the Munich branch of the Royal Bavarian Bank acquired the plots of land and had the existing palaces demolished. After new building was complete, the bank moved into the buildings with the facades that still exist today. The Palais was bought by the bank in 1898.
In 1924, the Bayerische Staatsbank and the Palais buildings were finally connected. During this time, the Palais was used for the bank’s registry. In 1944, the Palais was heavily damaged by bombing during World War II; Munich architect Erwin Schleich designed the new post-war building.
