October 08, 2024
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (October 2024) - As it does every year, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende is proud to announce its iconic celebration of the Day of the Dead, one of the most deeply rooted traditions in Mexican culture. This year’s event, titled "Celebrating Eternity," will take place on November 2nd. The hotel will transform into the perfect setting to honor loved ones who have passed away, offering an experience that blends tradition, gastronomy, and art.
The Day of the Dead, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is brought to life at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende with an immersive experience where guests can delve into the folklore, ancient customs, and authentic flavors of Mexico. Surrounded by alebrijes, marigold flowers, and a meticulously arranged altar, the hotel will be enveloped in a vibrant atmosphere celebrating the Day of the Dead. Every corner will reflect the spirit of this ancestral tradition, combining colors and elements that symbolize life, memory, and the honor of our loved ones.
From the heart of Mexico, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, in collaboration with the local community, will pay tribute to the departed on November 2nd with its traditional Parade of Catrinas. This lively celebration invites both visitors and locals to enthusiastically participate in a festive procession through the city streets, guided by music, mojigangas, colorful costumes, and a jubilant spirit. Guests can even transform into authentic catrinas and catrines, thanks to makeup stations set up in the hotel.
A Feast for the Soul
Following the parade, participants can gather for the "Celebrando la Eternidad" dinner, held in the Rosewood Garden—a space renowned for its lush greenery and panoramic views that create the ideal setting for this festivity. During the evening, attendees will enjoy a gastronomic experience that pays homage to the rich culinary heritage of the Day of the Dead.
The dinner will feature various carefully curated food stations offering traditional dishes, including elotes, green pozole, Oaxacan tamales, mole poblano, and a taco station serving tacos al pastor, carnitas, cochinita pibil, and more, complemented by diverse salsas and sides. For those with a sweet tooth, a dessert station will include pan de muerto, churros, buñuelos, and rompope flan, among other treats. Hosts dressed in neon accents will add a modern, festive touch to the celebration. Traditional music and colorful décor will fill the night with special moments, creating an opportunity to connect with loved ones through food, tradition, and culture—celebrating life while honoring the memory of those who have passed. During this season, guests can also savor a delightful version of pan de muerto filled with chocolate or strawberries, available to take home from Artesana Boutique.
Art that Honors Tradition
Adding to the celebration, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende will inaugurate the exhibition "Pictorial Journey through Realism and Huichol Tradition" by talented artist Mariana Flores Quijano. Her collection of Huichol skulls, featuring a vibrant array of colors and intricate symbols, deeply evokes the cosmology and spirituality of Mexico’s indigenous peoples. Each piece represents the connection between the earthly and the divine, symbolizing life, the cycle of death, and awakening to ancestral wisdom. To celebrate the opening of this art exhibition, Restaurant 1826 will host a special four-course dinner on October 30th, showcasing traditional Mexican dishes such as red pozole, Oaxacan tamales, and miner's enchiladas, among others. The exhibition will remain open until January 2025.
