San Miguel de Allende, Mexico (October 18, 2022) — Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, the luxury hotel nestled in an enchanting artists’ village north of Mexico City, is pleased to introduce Rosana Alvarez as the property’s inaugural Rosewood PlaceMaker. The latest extension of the brand’s guiding A Sense of Place™ philosophy, wherein each property is designed to immerse guests in the destination, the PlaceMakers program taps the pioneers of Rosewood’s communities to harness local culture through bespoke experiences and promote an authentic feeling of affinity and belonging.
Born and raised in San Miguel de Allende, Rosana’s roots in the region stretch back over 100 years. At Vía Orgánica, Rosana is dedicated to promoting healthy nutrition through organic agriculture, sustainable farming, and fair-trade practices. More than a farm and ranch, Vía Orgánica is an educational center offering workshops and courses on how to cultivate produce that historically fed her community, and in a way that replenishes the soil and reinvigorates a sense of pride in the land. A pioneer and visionary in her field, Rosana has shown how challenging the current agricultural system and educating her neighbors on the principles of regenerative agriculture can have an exponential impact on personal health, local economies, and the planet.
“The movement to open Vía Orgánica started in 2009, when we found ourselves thinking about our ancestors’ traditions and culture. It made us realize we needed an educational system designed to create a healthier community and more sustainable environment for future generations. Rosewood has supported our mission from the beginning, and we’re excited for this next chapter of our partnership.”
“We’re proud and humbled to have the opportunity to amplify Rosana’s message and introduce our guests to her incredible vision,” says Guillermo Varela, managing director at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. “Vía Orgánica is a shining example of the powerful effects one small ranch can have not only on the environment and personal wellbeing, but on an entire community. We’re honored to be part of Rosana’s story.”
As PlaceMaker for Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, Rosana Alvarez has developed distinct activations and programming, as well as a curated guide of her favorite destinations within San Miguel de Allende. Guests can partake in a guided tour of Vía Orgánica alongside Rosana, followed by a chef-led cooking class at Rosewood’s al fresco garden & kitchen, Los Pirules, incorporating ingredients picked fresh from the farm. For those looking for a more immersive cultural activity, Vía Orgánica also offers a special pulque tasting experience. Known as “Mexican kombucha,” pulque is a fermented beverage made onsite from 10-year-old agave plants and flavored with native fruits & herbs including passion fruit, celery, prickly pear, and more. Depending on the time of year, guests can learn how to extract the pulque directly from the agave plants, using traditional tools and methods from the pre-Hispanic period.
