SCARFES BAR LAUNCHES COCKTAIL MENU FOR 2022: AN EVOLVED ‘OFF THE WALL’ MENU THAT BRINGS SCARFES BAR’S CARICATURES TO LIFE
April 25, 2022
This spring, the award-winning Scarfes Bar at Rosewood London is launching its new cocktail menu, merging mixology and craftsmanship in their most advanced menu yet. Introducing the ‘Off the Wall’ menu that lifts the bar’s iconic caricatures quite literally off the canvas and onto the table for an unrivalled and one-of-a-kind cocktail experience. Featuring 20 drinks, the menu encompasses Scarfes Bar’s signature playful and light-hearted approach, with a sophisticated yet simplified cocktail offering that is physically represented by a bespoke figurine.
The figures are physical representations of designs from the bar’s namesake, British artist and caricaturist, Gerald Scarfe, who’s thought-provoking works adorn the marble walls as a living canvas. ‘Off the Wall’ is a liquid demonstration of the Scarfes Bar team’s skill and devotion to creating an experience that goes beyond the bar, uniting contemporary cocktail culture and technique with interactive augmented reality (AR) programming, for a 360-degree experience.
The AR technology creates the opportunity to engage with the most-loved figures of recent history on Instagram, anywhere in the world. In addition, the QR code, located on each figurine, invites guests to discover the new menu in digital format. In a world-first, the new menu summons engaging depictions of The Queen, David Attenborough, Adele, Elton John and Lewis Hamilton, cementing the cheeky high-spirits of the bar firmly into the future, whilst nodding to the rich tapestry of recent British history.
The evolved ‘Off the Wall’ menu has been led by Scarfes Bar’s Head Bartender Yann Bouvignies and Director of Bars Martin Siska, who have focussed the new menu on inclusivity and sustainable practices. The overall theme is one of fun-loving sophistication, highlighting Scarfes Bar’s enduring ability to surprise and delight. The combination of minimalistic, but perfectly executed, textured drinks and innovative technology, that also reduces paper waste, the ‘Off the Wall’ menu promises to be their most considered and grown-up menu to date.
Signature drinks include:
PRINCESS PEACH
A cunning stirred drink, that is seemingly delicate on the eye, but packs a fruity punch. Elegant and proud, this Martini-style serve is the epitome of genteel refinement, marrying together Procera Gin, peach wine with dill and acacia honey. Offset with the sweet velvet of Sauternes and garnished with fruit caviar, Princess Peach is a crowd-pleaser, perfect for imbibers looking for fun finesse.
TNT
Served deceptively clear, this drink conjures up the distinct flavours of market-fresh tomatoes, with a soft saltiness from the addition of Kalamata olive tonic. Lightly savoury and completely refreshing, TNT sees a compelling combination of tomato-infused Hendrick’s Gin, Raspberry Eau De Vie and vermouth come together in an effervescent and layered long drink - a cocktail designed for adventurous drinkers who are looking for something out of the ordinary.
HAPPY MISTAKE
Rising like the sun, this twist on a cobbler comes in a blushing rose hue, due to the dominant use of rhubarb. Served over crushed ice with a base of Patron Tequila and Palo Cortado, this delicately dry cocktail has definite nutty notes that are perfectly paired with the candied addition of white chocolate. The results are an easy-drinking sipper whose fresh and complex ingredients make for a compelling and textured drinking experience.
MY TIE
This boldly artistic serve nods to the Bauhaus movement, in a bright and colourful milk punch. With a mouthfeel akin to liquid silk, the My Tie has a base of Appleton Estate 12, an orange wine-based aperitif, mango and espelette pepper. A light kiss of peppermint and a touch of sherry cream result in a vibrant, bouncy and boozy drink that glows yellow in its rocks glass residence.
PICK ME
A cleverly crafted cocktail that disguises its Macallan 12 base with wild strawberry and sparkling cabernet for a highball that is accessible for all, Pick Me is served over ice and has a sunset ombre effect. Radiant in the glass, this mixture has a subtle sharpness, offset by nuts, delivered by the use of Oloroso sherry. Garnished with a bespoke rice-paper chip ‘Off the Wall’ it has been created with craftsmanship whilst remaining tongue-in-cheek, true to Scarfe’s style.
GAN-GAN
A tribute to the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee year, Gan-Gan is served straight up, with an ethereal edible cloud floating above it. Based on her infamously strong favourite, but elevated with intelligent ingredients, Scarfes Bar’s own Copperhead Gin is paired with chocolate-infused Dubonnet and a homemade blackcurrant and vetiver cordial. Deep red and velvety, this approachable aperitivo is comparative to a fruity martini with a lustrous and smooth aftertaste. ‘Gan-Gan’, inspired by the name the Queen’s grandchildren know her by, invites everyone to raise a glass and drink like royalty - Cheers to you, Your Majesty!
LET IT BEE
A true demonstration of cocktail magic, this take on a Morning Glory Fizz has multiple layers that caress the punchy base of Bruichladdich whisky. Evolving with each sip, fresh notes of pineapple join the distinct nuttiness of acorns, in a geniusly composed handmade soda. Fruity, but complex, cheeky but mature, Let It Bee is a master of deception, with a boost of nectar-like sweetness from bee pollen cooked in Rosewood London’s very own honey. With a marathon length of flavour, this drink is creamy and silky smooth, served straight up with a bubbly souffle-like top hat.
GOLDEN HOUR
A twinkling golden milk punch, the aptly named Golden Hour is pure luxury in liquid form. The rich flavours of Naked Malt and Avallen Calvados are embraced by the tender sweetness of maple and pleasant bitterness of roasted sesame, distilled with apples in Sepia.
ROADRUNNER
The only non-alcoholic serve on the new menu, but certainly no after thought, Roadrunner is the perfect choice for those ‘what to drink when you're not drinking’ moments. A clever combination of non-alcoholic aperitifs - Amarico and Martini Vibrante - it offers a complexity and vivacity that is unusual for soft cocktails. With an addition of Edi CBD to encourage an endorphin boost, this vivid drink has a herbiness, balanced by pear and sits proudly on the menu with its harder counterparts.
