PRESS RELEASES
October 19, 2020
On Monday October 19th, Rosewood London will launch its brand new terrace for the winter, in partnership with renowned whisky brand The Macallan and launching in tandem with The Macallan’s ‘Distil Your World London’ experience. The terrace will be open for six months, and promises to be the ultimate winter destination for guests looking for a luxurious gastronomic experience to remember.
The hotel’s elegant Edwardian courtyard will be transformed to a beautiful Scottish Highland manor, bringing a taste of the countryside to the heart of London. Taking inspiration from the rolling Scottish hills and The Macallan Estate, the terrace entrance will be adorned with beautiful blue heather and purple thistles, as well as elegant pine trees. Upon arrival, guests will be treated to a truly immersive experience. Staff will be dressed in suitably rural attire of Scottish tweed, roll necks and fly fishing jackets - supplied by Private White V.C., the luxury menswear brand from Manchester and Mayfair - while a collaboration with scent experts O by Olfacto will bring the distinctive smells of the countryside into the space. The Olfacto team has created a selection of bespoke scents for the entrance to the terrace, transporting guests to Speyside with notes of heather, earth and oakmoss.
Inside will bring in more cosy, warm and enveloping notes of leather and musk, evoking nights by a fire while guests are welcomed into a warm and comforting room filled with elegant designs inspired by and harking back to The Macallan’s newly opened distillery. The walls will show detailed maps of Speyside, the location of the distillery, and copper hanging lights are a nod to the copper stills used in the whiskey making process. Wellington boots and fishing rods lined up along the walls will add to the sense of having stepped into a Scottish manor house.
As always, Holborn Dining Room will be providing a menu of delicious, comforting dishes for guests to enjoy at The Macallan Manor House. These will include: Rare breed pork & white pudding scotch egg; Scottish Scallops, fennel, artichoke, malt broth; Acorn squash & spelt risotto with sage and Berkswell cheese and Sticky toffee pudding, vanilla ice cream.
The terrace will also serve the two gastronomic delights inspired by The Macallan’s partnership with the Roca brothers. The first dish, inspired by the famous duo, is a Scottish scallop dish served in an elegant malt broth, with shaved fennel, roasted artichoke puree and turnip. The second experience consists of three types of candied nuts; curry candied walnuts, Earl Grey candied macadamia nuts, and mint and ginger cashew nuts, each infused with unique tasting notes that echo the tastes of London, such as lemongrass, curry spice and Earl Grey.
To complement both dishes, Steven Bremner (The Macallan’s whisky maker) and Josep Roca have carefully selected an exclusive single cask at The Macallan Distillery. The remarkable single cask whisky is limited to 465 bottles and is not widely available to consumers. The whisky delivers distinctive tasting notes of oak spice, lively ginger and cinnamon, inspired by the unique essence, aroma and experience. Each pairing is priced at £100 and £90 respectively.
Distil Your World London is part of the wider Distil Your World campaign, a ground-breaking new series of single malt whiskies and gastronomic experiences for The Macallan, created by the Roca brothers, inspired by some of the world’s greatest cities, beginning with London. The Macallan Manor House will be one of two exclusive London destinations where customers can try a distinctive gastronomic dish paired with a new Macallan single cask whisky.
Other drinks served at the terrace will include a selection of wines, beers and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a menu of warming whisky cocktails including:
● The Macallan Old Fashioned: Old-Estate 48 Macallan Estate, Oloroso Sherry, chocolate, barley
● Above the River - Macallan 12, Cocoa, Angostura bark, Tonic
● Speyside Coffee - Macallan 12, coffee, cream
Visitors who take a particular liking to the new Macallan whisky will have the opportunity to buy a bottle for themselves, and store it inside a beautiful locked ‘bottle keep’, with their own name on it, located at the entrance to the Manor House.
The bottles will be opened upon purchase and owners will be able to return to the venue and enjoy the whisky in the perfect setting each time.
