PRESS RELEASES
November 02, 2020
After a highly anticipated reopening Scarfes Bar at Rosewood London is launching its new cocktail menu based on the globally recognised Enneagram personality test. Featuring 18 drinks for the nine types found on the distinctive Enneagram symbol, each one has been skillfully created to represent the two poles of each personae’s spectrum. Taking Scarfes Bar’s signature tongue-in-cheek approach, each drink is physically represented by an iconic caricature drawn by the bar’s namesake, Gerald Scarfe, chosen to represent each type’s recognisable quirks and foibles.
As a material exhibition of the Scarfes Bar team’s passion and devotion to detail in creating an experience that goes beyond the bar, the menu will take an interactive form, allowing guests to discover their perfect drink through clever flavour profiling. Corresponding to some of the most notorious characters that have peppered popular history, the new menu at Scarfes Bar brings to life the 9 personality types that form the unique shape of the Enneagram.
The menu is the second iteration under the creative vision of Head Bartender Yann Bouvignies and leadership of Bars Director, Martin Siska. Following the success of the 2019 menu, the team have once again taken a fully collaborative approach, involving the entire bar team but branching out to the wider hotel team as well. The resulting menu is one of sophistication, yet playfulness, displaying the full team’s adeptness and ability in delivering a unique imbibing experience. Merging traditional-style drinks with cutting edge techniques, the Enneagram Menu from Scarfes Bar is their most ambitious menu yet, featuring caricatures drawn by the incomparable hand of Gerald Scarfe.
For each personality type, The Reformer, The Helper, The Achiever, The Individualist,
The Investigator, The Loyalist, The Enthusiast, The Challenger and The Mediator, a legendary figure in cultural history has been selected. To demonstrate the two extremes of each personality, two contrasting drinks have been created by the bar team, using ingredients that represent their individual eccentricities. To ease the drinker’s journey, each drink has been designated as fruity, nutty, spiced, citrusy, tropical, savoury, mellow vegetal and woody, ensuring that there is a drink for every temperament or taste.
The new menu sees well-known talent from the past and present come together in the ultimate clash of personalities, resulting in an eclectic combination of cocktails. Portraying the perfectionist qualities of a typical Reformer, Steve Jobs is firstly exemplified in the Mac Daddy – a perfectly balanced display of technical skill with strong flavours of pepper and tomato. The second liquescent portrayal of Jobs is the fruity Core Beliefs to represent the tendency for temptation found in the reformer, with the rich flavours of the forbidden apple, wickedly offset with barley and almond. The decadent Rickstasy is the initial drink for Individualist Amy Winehouse, with luxurious flavours of cognac and lavender paradoxically paired with the robust Who Is Next? – a flowing celebration of bohemianism by way of an earthy, CBD-infused martini. Princess Diana represents The Loyalist, with the crowd-pleasing tropical Spencer Bevvy and the convivial, bubbly Dynasty – a citrusy Champagne cocktail that oozes pure style. With divisive and complicated flavours for Challenger Donald Trump, the Combover has bold notes of mushroom and mint, joined in juxtaposition by the indulgent Never Again, a combination of rhubarb and ginger, counterbalanced by effervescent sparkling sake. Walt Disney comes to life in the aptly named
Happy Place, a magical bubble of silky iridescence evoking feelings of joy, and the Drawn Out, a crowd-pleasing drink with a lengthy and interesting finish.
Notable British caricaturist Gerald Scarfe lent his name and artistic talent to Scarfes Bar at Rosewood London when it opened in 2014. Some of his most renowned work, including
satirical representations of politicians, musicians and the notorious depictions from Disney’s Hercules and Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”, have been allocated their own spaces. The cartoons are amusing and challenging with a section of the room dedicated to the news agenda, entitled ‘Current Affairs Corner’ where a changing collection of artwork of political and cultural figures rotate. Scarfes Bar is a living canvas of works, described by Gerald as “my personal art gallery, where you can see my life on the walls”.
With these thought-provoking, culturally relevant and delectable cocktails, the Enneagram Menu by Scarfes Bar encourages guests to delve deep into their inner-selves to discover the drink most suited to them, incited by their personality-type or flavour preference alike.
Signature Drinks Include:
THE HELPER – MOTHER THERESA
The Missionary

Developed to represent The Helper’s characteristic fear of missing out, this full-bodied aperitif has a bittersweet and serious character. Served straight up, Michter’s Rye is stirred
with Scarfes Bar’s own vermouth, Fino Sherry and Acqua di Cedro, for a sincere and poignant drink that appears sweet at first but has a distinctly bitter side.

Delivered as a dusky-pink highball, this drink has surprising nutty notes, built around a secret-recipe, bespoke Copperhead Gin, found only at Scarfes Bar.

Hard working investigators need an extra boost, which comes in the form of this coffee-
flavoured, energetic concoction. Made with Absolut Elyx,Mr Black Coffee Liqueur, London Essence Tonic and the genius addition of salted popcorn, the Wired Up is a predominantly spiced but remarkably citrusy beverage, resulting in a fascinating drink on multiple levels.
