New Mexico Cocktails & Culture Culinary Festival has announced the winners of its Chef & Shaker Challenge, a competition that tasks 16 acclaimed chef-bartender teams from Santa Fe and Albuquerque to create food and cocktail pairings. This year, the Anasazi Restaurant’s Executive Chef Edgar Beas, who partnered with Rosewood Inn of the Anasazi’s Assistant Food and Beverage Manager Miguel Castro, was honored with the “People’s Choice” award for his culinary excellence.
The 2018 Chef & Shaker Challenge took place on Saturday, June 2 as part of the annual three-day New Mexico Cocktails and Culture Culinary Festival. The winners of the Chef & Shaker Challenge are decided via onsite voting from event guests and a professional panel of esteemed judges. The team with the most guest votes is deemed “People’s Choice” while the panel selects the “Judge’s Pick.” A portion of ticket sales and each winning chef’s USD250 prize are donated to Cooking With Kids, a nonprofit foundation that promotes healthy living and self-reliance through culinary education for children and young adults. The Chef & Shaker Challenge raised USD4100 in charitable donations this year.

Chef Edgar joined the Anasazi Restaurant, Bar and Lounge in 2016 and has created a food philosophy rooted in the native culture and traditions in Santa Fe. The restaurant’s menus fuse old world techniques with modern, innovative recipes and artful plating, and they are consistently changing and adapting to reflect the freshest, most seasonal ingredients found in and around Santa Fe.
