One of the most historic producers of Brunello di Montalcino, the winery at Castiglion del Bosco was a founding member of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino in 1967. The estate's 2.000 hectares are largely occupied by dense woods of holm oak, oak, and beech, in addition to meadows, organically farmed crops, and 62 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Sangiovese, the historical grape, autoctone variety. There are two distinct vineyards defined by unique aspects, soils, and weather conditions: the 20-hectare Gauggiole just beneath the Borgo and the 42-hectare Capanna, where the top wines are produced.
When visiting Castiglion del Bosco Winery, you can choose between different experiences:
- The Wine Experience: our signature wine tour. This private experience is divided into three parts: a visit to our vineyard, a tour of the winery including the cellars, and a wine tasting. Duration: one hour.
- Cheese and Wine Pairing: enjoy a guided tasting of six Castiglion del Bosco wines, including our Millecento Brunello Riserva and our very limited production of Occhio di Pernice Vin Santo San Michele 2014, paired with a selection of six Italian cheeses such as aged Tuscan Pecorino cheeses, blue cheese, and fresh cheese. This activity also includes a private tour of the spectacular Capanna vineyard and our wine cellars. Duration: one and half hours.
- Brunello Vertical Tasting: a must for wine lovers visiting Tuscany and seeking an unforgettable experience. You will learn about the attention to detail throughout the winemaking process by visiting the cellars with one of our wine educators and enjoying six of the winery’s finest vintages of Brunello di Montalcino served with delicious local products. Duration: one and a half hours.
