Inspired Children’s Program Offers Interactive and Immersive Experiences Designed to Showcase the History and Heritage of The Bahamas
November 01, 2019
Rosewood Baha Mar, the elegant sanctuary situated within Nassau’s newest and most discerning resort destination of Baha Mar, today unveils Rosewood Explorers, an immersive, multi-faceted children’s program designed to inspire creativity and cultural awareness and appreciation among Rosewood’s younger guests. In keeping with Rosewood’s guiding A Sense of Place philosophy®, wherein the local destination informs the experiences extended at each property, Rosewood Explorers offers unique, hands-on activities that showcase The Bahamas’ quintessential qualities and character while encouraging exploration, adventure and engagement in social responsibility. From mingling with Nassau’s native sea creatures on a quest to become a junior marine biologist to creating delectable dishes using local ingredients and flavors, children have ample opportunity to learn about the island’s rich history, culture and heritage while creating memories that will last a lifetime. Following Rosewood Explorers’ launch at Rosewood Phuket in 2017, Rosewood Baha Mar is the third property from the prestigious Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® collection to carry the program.
“Since its grand opening in 2018, Rosewood Baha Mar has been committed to creating opportunities for travelers of all ages to discover the best of The Bahamas, and we’re proud to reinforce the resort as an ideal destination for immersive, intergenerational travel with the launch of Rosewood Explorers,” said Luigi Romaniello, Managing Director at Rosewood Baha Mar. “Not only does Rosewood Explorers allow children to play and grow with purpose, but it also affords parents with an opportunity to enjoy time to themselves with peace of mind that their kids are not only being entertained but are also learning about the world around them.”
Complimentary for children ages four to twelve years old and exclusive to guests of Rosewood Baha Mar, Rosewood Explorers is rooted in three key approaches to activity that provide opportunities for growth and development in different yet interconnected ways: “Learn,” “Craft” and “Play.” Each occupying a distinct zone within the program’s newly created clubhouse – a standalone, pirate ship-inspired space called the ‘Ship of Wonder’ – and further brought to life through unique programming both within the clubhouse as well as throughout the larger Baha Mar resort, the three philosophies allow children to engage with one another in the setting and style of their choice.
Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Rosewood Explorers features a robust schedule of events and experiences that vary by day based on one of seven distinct themes. In accordance with the overarching topic of the day, each individual itinerary offers an innovative take on several different areas of activity, including an exploratory excursion around the grounds, an arts and crafts session, a cooking class and a lesson on the local spirit and sensibilities of The Bahamas. Highlights include sojourns through the property’s Sanctuary, wherein the explorers have the opportunity to observe and interact with marine animals from turtles to stingrays to sharks while learning about conservation and sustainability, as well as visits to the aviary to become bird trainers for the day, feeding and mingling with flamingos and other exotic species. Additional activities developed to create a deeper understanding of Bahamian culture include a virtual tour across the archipelago to discover the discerning qualities of each individual island and traditional “Junkanoo” music and dance parties.
At launch, a sample schedule is as follows:
• Mondays: Pajama Day – Kids are invited to partake in a Karaoke sing-along and clubhouse camping trip, all in the comfort of their coziest PJs!
• Tuesdays: Commotion in the Ocean – Explorers embark on a journey to become a junior marine biologist with a visit to the Sanctuary at Baha Mar, where they will interact with the animals while learning about how best to protect the environment.
• Wednesdays: It’s a Bahamian Ting! – The vibrant and rhythmic culture of The Bahamas takes center stage with a deep-dive into the distinctive traditions of the country’s countless islands, culminating in a festive “Junkaroo” party.
• Thursdays: Take Flight – Alongside flying feathered friends, children can explore the resort’s aviary to meet, feed and mingle with many of the most recognizable Bahamian birds, including the resort’s flock of pink flamingos, with whom they’ll “moonwalk” into the sunset!
• Fridays: Holiday Happenings – In celebration of the Festive season, Explorers are enlisted as elves for the day to make Christmas crafts, cookies and ornaments and spread holiday cheer with a special caroling session.
• Saturdays: Game Zone – A day of friendly competition inclusive of sack races, scavenger hunts and board games determines which ambitious Explorer will be crowned “Captain of the Games.”
• Sundays: It’s All About You – Kids’ unique skills are showcased at a fun-filled ‘Explorers Got Talent’ show for their families and friends, celebrating song, dance, comedy, style and everything in between.
For children and families looking to prolong their Rosewood Explorers experience, additional evening sessions from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. offer a movie night under the stars, where guests are invited to enjoy a family-friendly film in a cozy viewing space complete with pillows, blankets and lounge chairs. In accordance with the preceding day’s theme, featured movies include classics such as Aladdin and The Lion King as well as new favorites Finding Nemo and The Lego Movie, among others.
