Carter Brey, Principal Cellist of the New York Philharmonic joins the Earl Rose & Friend Summer Series. Since 1996, he has established himself as one of the leading cellists of his generation. He has appeared as a soloist with the Philharmonic nearly every season, most recently performing Brahms’ Double Concerto in June 2024. Known for his deep musicality and technical brilliance, Brey has performed at esteemed festivals such as Spoleto and Santa Fe and with renowned ensembles like the Emerson and Tokyo String Quartets.
His extensive discography includes collaborations with pianist Christopher O’Riley, as well as the complete works of Chopin for cello and piano, recorded with Garrick Ohlsson. A graduate of the Peabody Institute and Yale University, Brey’s long-standing passion for chamber music and orchestral performance shines through in every performance. His evening at Café Carlyle promises a showcase of classical mastery, set in the intimate elegance of one of New York’s most beloved venues.
