Using drawing as a starting point, Sandra Cinto explores the boundaries of this language in dialogue with architecture, sculpture, painting, and installations. She has held solo and group exhibitions in institutions such as: (2023) Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporânea in Rome, Fondation Hermès, and ItauCultural (2020), Dallas Art Museum (2019), Cincinnati Art Center (2017), among others. Her work is present in collections such as: Inhotim, MAC/USP, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, MASP, MAM, MAR, National Gallery, MOMA, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Centro Galego de Arte Contemporânea, Dallas Art Museum, among others.
Recently, the artist completed the public artwork: "The Wishes Boulevard" during the Thailand Biennial, a permanent public project in which 32 trees were planted and 700m2 of tiles were installed in the city of Korat, Thailand.
For Rosewood São Paulo, Sandra Cinto created tiles for the Belavista Rooftop Pool & Bar area and an exclusive porcelain collection for the Belavista restaurant. The artist dedicated almost six years to the project, which includes more than 500 m2 of hand-painted and screen-printed ceramic tiles. The work includes the floor, countertops, side edges, and the pool. The project was produced in collaboration with Cerâmica Antigua, known for its commitment to sustainability. The original design was printed at a 1:1 scale and traced onto the white tiles, each piece individually painted by the hands of artisans from this factory located in the countryside of São Paulo.
Landscape and natural phenomena form the basis of her artistic practice, anchoring visual compositions inspired by the movement of ocean waves, the cycles of rivers, and the exuberance of Brazilian fauna and flora, specifically created for the rooftop tiles.
Her intention was to create an immersive work, where people walking on the tiles or experiencing the pleasant pool could access memories and project their own feelings and desires.
As an artist, she believes that art can fundamentally transform the routine of daily life by giving new meaning to common places. Creating this artwork is an opportunity to establish a deep, lasting, and direct relationship with the city and its surroundings.
