Chronicles of Cocktails Volume III Explores Literary Antagonists
November 08, 2023
Montecito, CA - Inspired by its library-like setting, The Manor Bar – the craft cocktail destination at the heart of the Forbes Five-Star Resort Rosewood Miramar Beach – is known for creative signature drinks that pay homage to great literature. Launching November 2023, the third iteration of the literary series, coined Chronicles of Cocktails Volume III, explores Iconic Villains and their impact in classic works.
Just as a great book can transport readers to far-flung destinations, great cocktails are designed to spark the imagination – a bracingly cold martini evokes a stroll through Narnia, notes of curry and ginger conjure Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book, while Hennessy, plum, blueberry and tonic capture the colorful and effervescent spirit of Oscar Wilde. Chronicles of Cocktails Volume III, Iconic Villains, developed by Director of Bars Sam Penton in collaboration with the Manor Bar team, takes a pared down approach to craft cocktails, focusing on exceptional spirits to build and elevate classic cocktails with a fresh perspective.
“The team at The Manor Bar worked together seamlessly on the creative process as we developed Chronicles of Cocktails Volume III,” says Penton. “We focused on foundational flavor profiles first, riffing on pre-prohibition and prohibition era drinks and letting the spirits lead the way. Then we let our imaginations run as we tasted, connecting sensations and flavors to themes and Iconic Villains. We are really excited with the results.”
Highlights of Chronicles of Cocktails Volume III, Iconic Villains, include:
● The White Witch (The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis) - Icy, elegant, and tempting with Grey Goose Vodka, St. George Terroir Gin, Lillet Blanc, Pear, Honeydew, Muskmelon
● Lady Macbeth (Macbeth by William Shakespeare) - Bold, punchy and delightful, with Tanqueray 10 Gin, Roasted Banana, Cinnamon, Pineapple, Lemon
● Shere Khan (The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling) - Fiery, lush and ferocious with Lost Explorer Mezcal, Aperol, Elderflower, Ginger, Curry and lime
● Napoleon (Animal Farm by George Orwell) - Refined, ruthless and classic with Maker’s Mark Private Barrel Bourbon, Campari, Vermouth, Raspberry, Lemon and Egg White
● Dorian Gray (A Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde) - Effervescent, cheeky and fruit forward with Hennessey VSOP Cognac, Empirical ‘The Plum I Suppose’, Blueberry, Cardamom, and tonic.
Located within the Manor House of the coastal Montecito resort, The Manor Bar’s welcoming atmosphere includes warm wooden accents, leather armchairs and a roaring fireplace topped with an original work by famed Colombian artist Fernando Botero. Previous themes for Chronicles of Cocktails included classics, and literary works by women with female protagonists. The bar is open to the public Sunday - Thursday from 5 - 11 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 4 p.m. - midnight.
In addition to The Manor Bar, Rosewood Miramar Beach’s celebrated restaurants and bars include Michelin Star and Michelin Green Star recognized Caruso’s, Miramar Beach Bar, AMA Sushi, and The Revere Room.
