May 30, 2024
This summer, Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel on the Place de la Concorde in Paris, is teaming up with the art, skate and social change platform THE SKATEROOM for an exclusive collaboration. The partnership will fuse Rosewood’s long-standing commitment to creativity and community, with the contemporary dynamism of skateboarding and the transformative power of art, manifesting as an exhibition at the iconic Hôtel de Crillon.
The Rosewood property is proud to celebrate this new discipline in a fun and artistic way at the iconic Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel. Skateboarding’s introduction to the official Summer program is a major milestone in the history of this global sporting event, and the inspiration behind the Rosewood X THE SKATEROOM partnership. The exhibition –running 18 June to 14 September – is the creative vision of Sarah Andelman, a key figure in the Parisian fashion and culture scene and the founder of Just an Idea. The exhibition was curated by Aline Asmar d’Amman, architect and founder of Culture in Architecture — the design studio responsible for Hôtel de Crillon’s recent renovations, with pieces carefully selected in collaboration with THE SKATEROOM. Visitors are encouraged to come and discover the art installations in the lobby and throughout the former Parisian palace, and pieces will appear in a number of the hotel suites, offering guests a unique, immersive artistic experience.
From June, an exhibition of boards by THE SKATEROOM will be unveiled at Rosewood’s Hôtel de Crillon, featuring work by artists including Cindy Sherman, Juergen Teller, Jenny Holzer, Ai Weiwei, Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol. There will also be a limited-edition Rosewood X THE SKATEROOM piece on show, created exclusively by the French artist, Inès Longevial, known for her intimate, colourful and impressionistic paintings Priced at €185 (solo) and €500 (triptych).10% of all sales go to THE SKATEROOM’s social partners.
A note on the artist
Born in Agen, France. Inès lives and works in Paris and represented bv Almine Rech. From early childhood, Inès Longevial has dedicated her life to art, from studying Picasso and Matisse in the books of her family library, to graduating with an MFA in Toulouse, in 2013. Inés favours self-portrait, exploring the human body with a lot of poetry and a lot of colour. Revered as a ‘sensitive artist’, her world often moves beyond painting. Inès has been working on face close-ups for years, finding them particularly beautiful in their scratched treatment, as they will appear on the skateboards. It is here, as with THE SKATEROOM, Inès’ work as an illustrator comes to life through creative collaborations with carefully chosen partners, in Inès own words, ‘The collaboration between The Skateroom and Hôtel de Crillon struck me as both moving and inspiring commitment to charity.’
“We are proud to celebrate this new discipline in a fun and artistic way at the iconic Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel. The Olympics means unity. The coming together of a city, of the world, what better way to honour this than with skateboarding? Skateboarding is intrinsically linked with creativity, innovation, experimentation and community. Diverse at its core. Alive in the gathering of like-minded individuals, united in a passion. This summer, with THE SKATEROOM, Rosewood and Hôtel de Crillon will play host to the magic of skateboarding, art, enjoyment and community, to all who visit” says Joanna Gunn, Chief Brand Officer of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.
“I have been collaborating with THE SKATEROOM since their early days at colette. I always loved the synergy between the artists and the decks, which are by definition the coolest possible « canvas ». I’m very proud of introducing THE SKATEROOM to Hôtel de Crillon. It made perfect sense as the Place de la Concorde will turn into a skatepark this summer and Rosewood has always been very supportive of contemporary art. Finally, it’s such a joy to admire Aline’s precious eye in welcoming these unique boards to this magnificent address in the most elegant way.” says Sarah Andelman, founder, Just An Idea.
“Hôtel de Crillon’s landmark interiors are infused with stories of past and future, bridging the 18th century patrimonial architecture with the finest French art de vivre. Style and irreverence are forever encapsulated within these walls that continue to witness moments of festive delight in the most unexpected fashion. Just like the energy born from the coming together of Rosewood’s Hôtel de Crillon and THE SKATEROOM, thanks to Sarah Andelman’s brilliant vision. It brings me great joy to see Ines Longevial’s skateboards in conversation with the Palace’s iconic interiors, fostering the inspirational theme of Marie-Antoinette’s elegance and fearlessness with artful power and feminine grace. Michele Lamy’s photos by Juergen Teller will permeate a radiant rock star aura in the Duc de Crillon suite, while Jules de Balincourt’s extraordinary landscape of bold colours offset their bright borders from the lobby’s commissioned painting that grounds the space, onto THE SKATEROOM’s decks, amongst other pieces that will enchant visitors and guests with their refreshing presence in the most surprising locations” commented Aline Asmar d’Amman, architect in charge of the recent Hôtel de Crillon makeover.
“We are immensely proud of this collaboration with THE SKATEROOM, an organisation with which we share common values combining lifestyle, sport and a commitment to charity. Hôtel de Crillon has always moved with the times, constantly reinventing itself and living in the moment. All eyes will be on Paris in summer 2024, and it’s important for Hôtel de Crillon to celebrate this major world event and continue experiencing the great moments in the history of Paris first-hand,” commented Vincent Billiard, Regional Vice President & Managing Director of Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel.
“It is an honor to team up with our dear friend Sarah Andelman and the iconic Hôtel de Crillon to celebrate art, skate and social change this summer. We are thrilled to bring artworks by phenomenal artists inside the Palace's spectacular rooms, carefully curated in collaboration with Aline Asmar d'Amman. Introducing an exclusive collection with the brilliant artist Inès Longevial and our long-term partner Almine Rech is the cherry on the cake — it's the perfect creation to mark a truly special moment,” commented Charles-Antoine Bodson, founder of THE SKATEROOM.
