HISTORY
Built as a private estate in the early 1900s, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek is steeped in history. After a fire claimed the original residence in 1908, the original owners embarked on a tour of Europe with their architect, amassing an intriguing collection of antique pieces, authentic fixtures and luxurious materials for their new home along the way.
By 1925, the opulent Sheppard King manor was complete. Displaying architectural influences from 16th-century Renaissance Italy, the home featured a stunning cantilevered staircase and ornate interior décor typical of the grandest European estates. It also boasted the first private elevator in Dallas. Over the years, the palatial residence hosted countless society parties as the center of the Dallas social scene. Famous guests included President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Tennessee Williams. The manor changed hands a number of times, moving between wealthy families and prestigious corporations.
In 1979, the Rosewood Corporation purchased the property and transformed it into a world-class restaurant and hotel. The Mansion Restaurant opened to rave reviews and extraordinary national acclaim in 1980. In 1981, the luxury hotel was added to complement the original residential structure, offering 142 guest rooms and suites. The hotel debuted with a grand gala benefiting the local arts and education communities, an early indication of a strong commitment to philanthropic endeavors.
Across the decades, modern design elements have been introduced while preserving historic details. Meticulously restored interiors, hand-carved fireplaces, marble floors and stained-glass windows continue to reflect the estate's original magnificence.

HOTEL ENTRY ROTUNDA & LIVING ROOM
Bathed in natural light, the rotunda welcomes guests with a fresh, conservatory-like atmosphere. Soaring above the rotunda’s signature limestone rosettes and crown trim, the cupola is adorned with an intricate branch-and-leaf motif in plaster relief. Along the walls, tall mirror-paneled insets mimic the dramatic shape of the rotunda’s graceful arched windows, heightening the elegance and dimension of the space. Stone flooring and plaster finishes echo the estate’s original Renaissance-inspired designs.
Handsome mahogany paneling and mirrored insets add depth and interest to both the living room and front desk area. Exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail are apparent throughout both spaces. In the living room, an elegant screened fireplace is set between artfully curated shelves. Sophisticated furnishings in contemporary silhouettes contribute to a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
