NEWS RELEASE
March 27, 2024
Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort, the latest iteration of a beloved island hideaway that opened in July 2023, has unveiled its collection of distinctive Kauhale. Complete with world-class amenities, intuitive service, and access to local experiences, the resort’s Ocean Front Four Bedroom Maheawalu Kauhale, Ocean Front Accessible Four Bedroom Kumukea Kauhale, and 'Ohana Pool Four Bedroom Kauhale have set a new benchmark for luxury accommodations available across Hawai’i. Set against one of the world’s most stunning backdrops, the suites’ destinations are beyond compare—either nestled into the lush grounds of the resort or steps away from the shoreline. Sharing a name with the Hawaiian word for “group of houses,” these sweeping accommodations channel Kona Village’s legacy and illustrate the resort’s commitment to creating experiences that authentically speak to the destination’s distinctive spirit, culture, and history. This unique layout provides guests with the utmost privacy, and each suite’s expansiveness allows one to enjoy the feeling of a private home, with the amenities and service of a world-class resort. In line with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts’ dedication to the brand’s guiding A Sense of Place® philosophy, these bespoke accommodations have been thoughtfully constructed to showcase their natural surroundings.
Purposefully designed to encompass multiple free-standing structures, the new signature suites offer the comforting familiarity of home-like architecture, allowing guests the opportunity to embrace closeness, while also providing them the option to seek out seclusion. All six of the signature Kauhale were developed around the strong focal points of either sweeping ocean views or welcoming communal spaces. The collection is comprised of three distinctive layouts and design patterns, each featuring personalized touches.
Spearheaded by Greg Warner of Walker Warner Architects and the San Francisco design firm NICOLEHOLLIS, the visionaries who helped guide the design direction for the resort’s rebirth, the Kauhale were constructed to blend in with the natural beauty of Hawai’i. Both designers’ commitment to honoring the surroundings can be seen and felt throughout each suite, and this effort to work in harmony with nature has resulted in a layout and palette that feels unique to the Big Island. The interiors incorporate design elements influenced by the destination, featuring warm wood tones and natural woven panels, all hand-selected to elicit a relaxed, luxurious feel. The suites are also adorned with a thoughtfully curated art collection of the works done by Hawaiian artists, allowing another occasion for the island’s many stories to shine through. Each Kauhale is attended to by its dedicated butler who oversees and anticipates the guest’s every need, embodying Rosewood’s unique approach to relationship-based hospitality. This level of service is a true differentiator for Kona Village, ensuring that each stay is seamless from beginning to end. The signature suites also come complete with complimentary round-trip airport transfers for registered guests so that they may begin to relax and unwind from the moment they step off the plane.
“We are incredibly proud to unveil our signature suite offering, and believe they not only exceed expectations of what is possible in terms of Hawaiian luxury but also authentically celebrate the true beauty of the island we are lucky enough to call home,” said Daniel Scott, Managing Director of Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort. “But it is truly our associates that make the magical experience possible, and their dedication and warmth translate through the entire suite experience.” |
The Ocean Front Four-Bedroom Maheawalu Kauhale, located on the resort’s Maheawalu Point, boasts unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and features 8,500 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor lanai space, all drawing the eye out to the glittery horizon beyond. Designed to reflect the architectural traditions of the island, this signature residence features an expansive floor plan with three king beds, two queen beds, an indoor living and dining room, a full chef’s kitchen, four and a half bathrooms, a luxurious outdoor bathtub and rain shower, private ocean front pool, and an outdoor dining area.
Situated on the northernmost point of the resort, The Ocean Front Four-Bedroom Kumukea Kauhale features the same layout as the Maheawalu Kauhale, but with mobility-accessible features. Offering the perfect balance of solitude and comfort, both ocean-front four-bedroom accommodations are stylish blends of signature heritage and modern design. While guests have the option to enjoy the plethora of Kona Village’s vast offerings, each Kauhale features a private pool, hot tub, and outdoor fire pit all set against the striking backdrop of coastal cliffs, creating a private microcosm of the resort experience.
The ‘Ohana Pool Four Bedroom Kauhale encompasses 6,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor lanai space with a private pool and features two king beds, four queen beds, and four and a half bathrooms. Named for the Hawaiian term meaning family, this suite is set back into the lush greenery of the resort and offers a tranquil and privatized setting to reconnect and create everlasting memories.
Beyond bespoke design and high-touch service, the Kauhale encompasses a unique menu of activities, providing the opportunity to intimately connect with the destination. Guests are offered their choice of a tailor-made experience with Kona Village’s Kilo Kai (ocean adventures) or Cultural Center, both featuring immersive journeys surrounding the natural and historical ethos of the resort. Every Kauhale stay also comes with the choice of one 60-minute Asaya Spa service for two adults, granting access to the Big Island’s most indulgent yet mindful wellness oasis. The Maheawalu Kauhale includes all meals enjoyed in-suite, and the Kumukea and ‘Ohana Kauhale include one chef-curated dinner in-suite, bringing the freshness of Kona Village’s culinary offerings directly to guests for a dining offering that is personalized and intimate. With the help of the expert butler team, the entire retreat is filled with moments of surprise and delight, beginning with a personalized welcome amenity upon arrival.
